Dead Posey Interview

SUNRAY MAGAZINE has the pleasure to interview the Rock Band “Dead Posey

SUNRAY: How Did You Meet?
DP: We met while on the set for a music video of Tony’s previous band and quickly became partners in crime. Our musical journey together started a few years after that and rock n roll has been coursing through our veins ever since – Dead Posey is the perfect way for us to share it with the world!

SUNRAY: Why Dead Posey?
DP: The name Dead Posey was inspired by the nursery rhyme “Ring Around the Rosie” which was written about the Black Plague. People would put flowers in their pockets to ward off the smell of death brought on by the disease. We liked having in the band name the mix of darkness and the light that make up this world.

SUNRAY: Who Are Your Biggest Influences?
DP: There’s a laundry list of course but to pinpoint a few for where we are now as a band they are Depeche Mode, NIN, Hole, Marilyn Manson, Garbage, Rob Zombie, the Kills, the Doors, Nirvana, David Lynch.

SUNRAY: Who’s your ideal musician to collaborate with and why?
DP: Literally anyone in the list above – and more!

SUNRAY: What’s Your Songwriting Process?
DP: We both start ideas on our own, musically and lyrically, and then do a little “show and tell” where we play our ideas to the other person. The things we’re both most excited about, we start to turn into a song. Every song is different but we like to find the main energy of a song pretty quickly and early on, playing and writing together on acoustic guitar while also building sonic elements into demo recordings to give the song a vibe and to keep us excited about it. Then we’ll spend many weeks refining it during the recording process until it’s exactly what we’re hoping to express.

SUNRAY: What is your favourite song to perform?
DP: Our set is all new songs from our upcoming debut album besides 2 older ones so it is a lot of fun for us right now as there’s so much newer stuff that didn’t exist before the pandemic. It’s hard to pick 1 song at the moment…

SUNRAY: Talk to us about your recent performance on the UK’s premier rock festival “Download Festival”, How was that experience?
DP: Download was everything and more! The fans showed up at 11:50am and packed the tent our stage was in and we couldn’t have asked for a better vibe. You never know what a festival will be like especially in a different country but Download certainly did not disappoint. We arrived at about 4am (we were sleeping in a sprinter van and had a drive from a show in Glasgow the night before) and we got to walk the site a little – it was surreal to see the festival grounds empty before everyone showed up and the mayhem ensued. We can’t wait to come back!

SUNRAY: How’s The Tour Going?
DP: It was a dream getting back out there on the road the past few weeks, especially after such a long time away from live shows due to Covid. It’s truthfully hard to go back in the studio to finish our album now that we got a taste of the road again!

SUNRAY: What next for The band?
DP: We have another single coming out (our cover of New Order’s “Blue Monday” which we played while in the UK) in the next few weeks, and some touring throughout the US and Canada in Sept/Oct. In the meantime we’ll be deep in the studio finishing the rest of the songs on our debut LP which we hope to release early in 2023.

SUNRAY: Where we can find you?
DP: deadposey.com is where you can find all our streaming & social links + tour dates etc (IG/FB: @deadposey / Twitter: @dead_posey)
